New book: Rare insect species from the Republic of Moldova

The most numerous animals on Earth are insects, exceeding one million species distributed in the most diverse terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Currently, 20% of the known insect species are butterflies, and about 40% – beetles. Approximately 1000 species of macrolepidoptera and 2550 species of beetles are known in the Republic of Moldova, the number of which is increasing every year due to research conducted by entomologists.

Methodological guide for monitoring the hydropower impact on transboundary river ecosystems was elaborated in the frame of the international project eMS BSB 165 Creating a system of innovative transboundary monitoring of the Black Sea river ecosystems transformation under impacts of hydropower development and climate change – HydroEcoNex (Joint Operational Program Black Sea Basin 2014-2020, financed by the European Union).

On 11 February, the scientific community celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, as result of the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/70/212 adopted in December 2015. The initiative had the aim to promote the employment of women and girls in the sciences, to encourage the career development and participation in the decision-making processes in science, to recognize the achievements of women in science.

At the meeting from 12 January 2022, in order to streamline the process of preparing scientific personnel by PhD programs, motivate the young people to engage in research, development and innovation, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved the Government Decision on awarding the Government Scholarship of Excellence and Scholarship on scientific fields for PhD students for 2022.
