The Institute of Zoology has participated in the 20th edition of the International Exhibition of Research, Innovations and Inventions PRO INVENT, which was held between 26 and 28 October 2022 in Cluj-Napoca. Exhibition is traditionally organized by the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.                 

Between 22 August and 7 September 2022, the scientific researcher Alexandr Morozov (Laboratory of Molecular Systematics and Phylogeny) participated in a short-term scientific mission within the COST action CA17108, which was organized by the Norwegian University of Applied Sciences (Hamar city). The aim of the mission was the mastering the Nanopore sequencing protocol using DNA isolates from mosquitoes to identify the complete bacterial flora.

The Institute of Zoology participated with several works in the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations "Traian Vuia", the 8th edition. The exhibition, which is traditionally organised by the Society of Inventors from Banat, was held in Timisoara, Romania, between 8 and 10 October 2022.

This year, more exactly on 30 September, the European Researchers' Night was organized in the Republic of Moldova in two main locations – in the park of the Technical University of Moldova (Chisinau municipality) and the square of the Aleco Russo University from Balti.

Between 21 and 23 September 2022, the researchers of the Institute of Zoology participated in the International Exhibition of Innovation and Technological Transfer "Excellent Idea", organized in Chisinau by the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

Between September 15-17, the International Scientific Conference "Museum and scientific research", XXIXth edition, was held, being organized by the Natural Sciences section of the Oltenia Museum, Craiova, Romania. The researchers of the Institute of Zoology presented 5 works in the form of oral and poster communications. 

Lots complaints of Chisinau inhabitants regarding the appearance of small stinging insects were registered in the last few days. These turned out to be two species of invasive bugs - the platanus lace bug (Corythucha ciliata) and the oak lace bug (Corythucha arcuata). Both species are very similar to each other – they have a few millimetres in size, white colour with black-grey spots. C. ciliata finds shelter on the Platanus sp. tree, but C.

Today, 19 August 2022, the implementation period of the project 2SOFT/1.2/47 Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin – TeamUp HealthyFish, funded by the European Union within the Joint Operational Program Romania-Republic of Moldova 2014-2020, has ended. The project has been carried out by the Institute of Zoology in partnership with the Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences from Iași during 21 months, starting in November 2020, and has had a total budget of around 198 thousand euro. 

The brochure „Ladybugs (Insecta: Coccinelidae) from the Republic of Moldova”, authors – Bușmachiu Galina, Bacal Svetlana, Burduja Daniela, Calestru Livia and Belova Victoria, includes the study of the diversity of ladybug species in the country – the best-known group of coleopterous insects, preferred and loved by children.

The work „Methodological guide for fish farmers” is a contribution to the knowledge in the field of aquaculture, aiming at, particularly, ensuring the health of fish raised in ponds in the Prut River basin through sustainable practices of pond management.

The guide was developed within the cross-border project 2 SOFT 1.2./47 „Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin” - TeamUp HealthyFish and recommended for editing by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology.
