The World Science Day for Peace and Development, marked every year on 10 November, was established on 2 November 2001, at the 31st session of the UNESCO General Conference, by Resolution 20/31C, in order to highlight the important role of science in society and the need to engage the general public in debates on important contemporary issues relevant to science.
