Expedition of researchers of the Institute of Zoology to fish farms from Iași and Botoșani counties

On 24-26 May 2021, within the on-going project 2 SOFT/1.2/47 Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin – TeamUp HealthyFish (Joint Operational Program Romania-Republic of Moldova 2014-2020 funded by the European Union), a joint field expedition was made with the participation of researchers of the Institute of Zoology and the Iași Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences (former Iași Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine).

There were visited two Romanian fish farms - Rompescaris SRL (Podu-Iloaiei, Iași county) and S.C. Piscicola S.A.– Fish farm Drăcșani (Botoșani county). Researchers and farmers discussed in detail the problems faced by fish farms and ways to solve them. Hydrochemical, hydrobiological, ichthyological and ichthyoparasitological samples were collected from fish ponds, aiming the complex investigation of these aquatic ecosystems. A range of investigations were carried out in situ, as example, pH, Eh, O2, N-NH+4, N-NO-2, N-NO-3, Pmin, conductivity, etc. Also, the health status of fish was analysed in field conditions.

Director of the Institute of Zoology, professor, doctor habilitat Laurenția Ungureanu, correspondent member of ASM, professor, doctor habilitat, project scientific coordinator Elena Zubcov (Republic of Moldova) and professor, doctor-engineer, team manager on behalf of the partner beneficiary Liviu-Dan Miron had also a short visit at the CBC Regional Office Iasi on 26 May 2021.
