Kick off meeting of the project “Team up for healthy fish in the aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin”

On Monday, December 28, 2020, researchers from the Institute of Zoology (IZ)) and of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Iasi (Romania) (USAMV), met in an online kick off meeting, organized within the project “Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin" - 2SOFT / 1.2 / 47.

The meeting was attended by members of the Laboratories of Hydrobiology and Ecotoxicology, Ichthyology and Aquaculture, Parasitology and Helminthology (IZ), teachers and researchers from USAMV and the Research Institute for Agriculture and Environment (ICAM) Iasi.

The meeting was coordinated by Mrs. Laurenția Ungureanu, director of the Institute of Zoology, as representative of the project coordinator and administrative manager of the project, and Mr. Liviu Miron, vice-rector of the university and project manager from USAMV. The speakers presented the purpose and objectives of the project, mentioning the major importance of the project in improving the situation regarding the ecological diagnosis of aquatoria of the Prut river basin, where there are fish facilities for raising cyprinid species under extensive or semi-intensive systems, the need to create a database on fish diseases in the Prut river basin - which represent major problems for aquaculture systems in both the Republic of Moldova and Romania. Following that, Mr. Miron presented the team of researchers and the important activities of the project.

Mrs. Laurenția Ungureanu, congratulated both teams for obtaining funding for the project and wanted to mention that the Institute of Zoology is already carrying out the 5th international project within cross-border programs, in the current project will be involved researchers from 3 laboratories of IZ, with extensive experience in the field, thus having favorable premises for achieving all the proposed objectives.

Ms. Lilly Bitic presented the financial aspects and responsibilities of the team members, the implementation period and the aspects related to the co-financing of the project by USAMV Iași. In conclusion, Mr. Liviu Miron congratulated those present at the online meeting on the occasion of the winter holidays, thanking them for their presence and expressed his hope for a lucrative and interesting project that will be able to bring useful results for fish farms in the Prut river basin, both from the Republic of Moldova and Romania.
