Already traditionally, the scientific community marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in the first decade of February, through a decision of the UN General Assembly, which promotes full and equal access and participation of women in the following fields: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. At the international level, the 2024 edition had as theme „Women in Science Leadership: A new Era for Sustainability” (source: https://www.un.org/en/observances/women-and-girls-in-science -day).
On this occasion, the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova awarded several female researchers with honorary diplomas, including two employees of the Institute of Zoology:
- Bacal Svetlana, PhD in biological sciences, research associate professor, leading scientific researcher in the Professor Boris Vereshchaghin Laboratory of Entomology (category of senior researchers);
- Tumanova Daria, PhD in biological sciences, senior scientific researcher in the Laboratory of Hydrobiology (category of young researchers).

The administration of the Institute of Zoology expresses its admiration for all the female researchers of the Institute of Zoology, who through talent, creativity and hard work contribute to the sustainable development of society, and wishes them good health, peace and new professional achievements.
