On February 7, 2025, the 5th grade "D" pupils from the Mihai Viteazul Theoretical High School from Chișinău visited the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University. The main goal of this activity was to enrich the students' knowledge in the field of zoology and provide them with a practical experience related to scientific research in this area.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore three specialized laboratories, being guided by passionate and dedicated researchers:
• Laboratory of Parasitology and Helminthology, where students learned about the diversity of parasitic species, their life cycles, and their impact on the health of humans and animals. The guide of this laboratory was Dr. Habil. Laboratory Head Stefan Rusu, along with Dr. Habil. Dumitru Erhan, Dr. Maria Zamornea, Dr. Oleg Chihai, Dr. Olesea Gliga, Dr. Elena Gherasim, and Dr. Elena Iurcu-Străistaru.
• Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates with the Museum of Fossil Faunistic Complexes of Moldova, where students discovered the diversity of terrestrial fauna, analyzed specimens of mammals, birds, and reptiles, and learned about the importance of biodiversity conservation. The guides in this laboratory were Dr. Alina Larion, Dr. Habil. Roman Croitor, Dr. Natalia Sochircă, and scientific researcher Viorica Pascari.
• Professor Boris Vereșceaghin Laboratory of Entomology with the Entomology Museum, where students became familiar with various insect species, techniques for collecting and classifying them, as well as their importance in ecosystems. The guide of this laboratory was Dr. Habil., Laboratory Head Galina Bușmachiu, along with Dr. Livia Calestru, Dr. Habil. Svetlana Bacal, and Dr. Cristina Țugulea.
The visit was interactive and engaging, providing students with the opportunity to ask questions and discover fascinating aspects of the animal world. The experience gained sparked their curiosity and interest in natural sciences, offering them a clearer perspective on the importance of research in the field of zoology.
Both the students and the teaching staff of the high school, along with the parents, extend sincere thanks to the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University for the warm welcome and for providing the opportunity for students to learn in an interactive and applied manner.
