Urban biodiversity - among the scientific concerns of the Institute of Zoology

The researchers of the Institute of Zoology participated on 10 November 2022 in the technical-scientific symposium "Conservation of urban biodiversity - the premise of the sustainable development of the Chisinau municipality", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the „Green Spaces Management Association” Municipal Enterprise.

The participation was a significant one - about a third of the papers published in the symposium proceedings have as authors the researchers of the Institute of Zoology. The presented data referred both to terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity in the Chisinau municipality. The researches were carried out at the ecosystem (for example, Valea Morilor lake), sector (for example, Ceucari-Gratiesti) or municipality level. It should be noted that only some investigations were carried out within the scientific contracts.

Most of the authors stated the need for periodic monitoring of urban biodiversity, as a basis for developing recommendations for the improvement of the ecological state of green spaces in the municipality.

In the plenary session of symposium, the Green Spaces Management Association offered a diploma to the Institute of Zoology for its contribution to the research of the biodiversity of green spaces from Chisinau municipality. In addition, diplomas were awarded to Laurentia Ungureanu, doctor habilitat in biological sciences, professor, director of the Institute of Zoology, and Elena Zubcov, doctor habilitat in biological sciences, professor, correspondent member of ASM, head of the Center of Research of Hydrobiocenoses and Ecotoxicology.
