The European Research Night – an initiative of the European Union – is an event organized annually at the end of September, which aims to promote research&innovation activity and bring it closer to the general public.
On 29 September 2023, the Institute of Zoology participated in the event organised, as in 2022, in the park of the Technical University of Moldova from Râșcani sector of Chișinău.
The Institute of Zoology surprised the public with pieces from the Museum of Fossil Faunistic Complexes of the Institute of Zoology, collections of insects, aquatic and terrestrial molluscs. For the first time, a collection of cicadas, compiled by scientific researcher Svetlana Grozdeva (Laboratory of Entomology), a collection of pharyngeal teeth of cyprinid fish, compiled by researchers of the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture, were exhibited at a science popularization event. The visitors were also curious to see a live culture of daphnia (small planktonic crustaceans), grown by scientific researcher Liubovi Lebedenco.
The administration of the Institute of Zoology are grateful to all the researchers who were involved in the preparation and transportation of the exhibition materials, but also those who presented them with great enthusiasm, in particular, Dr. Elena Enciu (Laboratory of Entomology), Viorica Pascari, Dr. Veaceslav Sîtnic, Dr. Vladislav Caldare (Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates), Liubovi Lebedenco (Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ecotoxicology), and Rostislav Chelmenciuc (Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture).
The participation of the Institute of Zoology in the European Research Night – 2023 was also reflected in the materials published at:
