In the Republic of Moldova,  the first researches in the field of parasitology, were initiated in the years 1957-1958  within the Moldovan subsidiary of the Academy of Sciences of the U.R.S.S. by the doctors of biological sciences Şumilo Raisa and  Andreico Olga, and as laboratory workers, Dementieva Sofia and Pinciuc Lidia. This group of specialists carried out researches in the Invertebrate Zoology Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology,  led by university professor Iakov Print. Dr. Şumilo Raisa and Dr. Andreico Olga initiated researches in establishing the level of infestation with ecto- and endoparasites in domestic and wild birds and in rodents, respectively.
The Laboratory of Parasitology and Helminthology was founded in1961 by academician Alexei Spassky - founder of the school of parasitology, helminthology and phytonematology, renowned scientist, specialist in morphology, ecology and systematics of cestodes, doctor habilitatus in biology, university professor, State Prize Laureate of the Republic of Moldova in the field of science and technology,  Presidium Prize Laureate of the Academy of Sciences of USSR “K. I. Skreabin“, Honorary member of the Association of Helminthologists of Russia, member of the Association of Parasitologists of Ukraine, Romania and Europe, honorary citizen of Lukoianov, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Russia (was described about 300 genera, subfamilies and new families for science, which are included in the specialized world determinants). He invent hundreds of known cestode genera and families, and as a result, more than 1,000 species received new taxonomic diagnoses. At the same time were synonymised about 200 families and subfamilies of nematodes and cestodes described incorrectly above, dozens of orders and even artificially separated classes. 
The results of complex parasitological investigations (coprological, biochemical, hematological, immunological, etc.), allowed to adjust and perfect the methods of prophylaxis and control of parasitosis in animals and plants. Studies have been performed  regarding the structure of the parasitic areas according to the migration of the hosts (Spassky A., Spassky Lidia, Sumilo Raisa, Andreico Olga, Nesterov P., Uspensky Inga, Conovalov I., Luncaşu M., Melnic Maria, Erhan D., Rusu Ş., Chihai O., Melnic Galina, Mosu A.). 
 The founder of the phytonematological school in the Republic of Moldova is the university professor Petru Nesterov, whose scientific career was initiated in 1962 in the laboratory of Parasitology of the Institute of Zoology, under the leadership of academician Alexei Spassky and the university professor from Moscow Alexander Paramonov.
In the Republic of Moldova, by the method of total phytonematological analyzes, were investigated nematodes from the rhizosphere of the root system of sugar beet, table beet and fodder plants (Nesterov P., Glovaţkaia M., Coroliciuc V.); Solanaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Alliaceae, (Dementieva S., Nesterov P., Cojocaru Gh., Ghebre M., Liseţkaia L., Melnic M.); apple and peach orchards, currant plantations, raspberry, strawberry (Nesterov P., Liseţkaia L., Cojocaru Gh., Batâr A., Stegarescu O., Zarudneva M., Coev G., Poiras L., Bivol A., Iurcu-Străistaru E.); decorative flowers (carnations, tulips, gladiolus) (Batâr A., Coev G., Cojocaru Gh., Nesterov P.);  Tehnical cultures (Dementieva S.), fodder (autumn rape) (Bivol A., Melnic M., Iurcu-Străistaru E., Poiras L.), gramineae (autumn grain) (Nesterov P., Dementieva S., Lizogubova L.); maize (Nesterov P., Lizogubova L.);  sunflower (Nesterov P.); main aromatic plants (lavender, mint, sage, Crimean red rose, orchird-iris), (Liseţkaia L., Batâr A., Coev G.), grape (Stegarescu O., Nesterov P., Polinkovschii A., Poiras L.), forest woody plants (Nesterov P., Liseţkaia L., Melnic M., Batâr A., Cojocaru Gh., Cozlovschii N., Poiras L.)

  1. Was studied the diversity of parasitic fauna in domestic and wild animals depending on the maintenance technology;
  2. For the first time, was revealed the degree of parasite infestation in cattle, in relation to the type of stress reactivity;
  3. New data were obtained on the antiparasitic and morpho-functional therapeutic status in infested cattle in the form of mono- and poly- invasions, depending on the type of stress-reactivity and evaluate the more important quantitative and qualitative indices of obtained animal products from stress-reactive and stress-resistant cattle; 
  4. Was established the mechanism of parasitic agents influence (mono- and mixed invasions) on the host organism in cattle;
  5. Was studied the impact of parasitic agents (mono- and mixed invasions) and antiparasitic remedies on the hematological, biochemical and immune status in cattle;
  6. Was studied the antiparasitic efficacy of various treatment schemes with preparations of chemical origin in infested cattle in the form of mono- and poly invasions;
  7. Were developed new methods of prophylaxis of immunodeficiency, of parasitic order in cattle;
  8. Were developed new procedures of complementary feeding and deworming to animal species from hunting fauna;
  9. Was elaborated a new concept for evaluating the helminths fauna, highlighting the taxonomic characteristic, habitual, evolutive, hierarchical and epidemiological, with establishment of endoparasitism typology and with specifying the nosological classification;
  10. For the first time, were subjected to genetic-molecular analysis, hydatid cysts taken from intermediate hosts (humans, pigs, cattle, sheep) from the Republic of Moldova. As a result of interdisciplinary researches, the genotypes Echinococcus granulosus sensu stricto G1, G3 and E. canadensis G6, G7, were identified, assessed their epidemiological potential and established their zoonotic significance;
  11. Were elaborated and implemented new procedures for the production of baits for antiparasitic chemotherapy in order to reduce the incidence of parasitosis in wild carnivores;
  12. Was developed and implemented a new method of collecting ectoparasites from live birds (net superior than the existing ones) and established the degree of infestation with ecto- and endoparasites in domestic birds; 
  13. Were elaborated, tested and implemented new remedies of plant origin in the control of ectoparasitosis in birds; 
  14. Was studied helminthological fauna in animals with amphibious lifestyle (Amphibia: Ranidae, Bufonidae) from natural and anthropized biotopes of the Republic of Moldova, depending on the succession of intrinsic and extrinsic factors; 
  15. Was assessed epizootic status of aquatic and terrestrial biotopes, with the identification of helminths species, which participate in the formation of outbreaks of common diseases for fish, birds, mammals and humans;
  16. For the first time, was established  the importance of the helminthological study in the eucaudatus amphibians from the families Ranidae and Bufonidae:  faunistic, bioindicators and zoogeographical distribution;
  17. For the first time, was estanblished the role of the amphibians Ranidae and Bufonidae in the prophylaxis of fasciolosis in domestic and wild animals;
  18. Was established the diversity of parasitic fauna from the classes Trematoda, Secerneatea in fish (families Cyprinidae, Percidae, Gobiidae), from various aquatic ecosystems of the Republic of Moldova;
  19. For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, were effectuated experimental researches, on the infestation of different varieties of potatoes with nematodes of the genus Ditylenchus and determined the degree of susceptibility; 
  20. Was evaluated diversity of primary (Ditylenchus destructor, Ditylenchus dipsaci) and secondary (saprophytes) parasites in the Solonaceae culture, and elaborated new innovative procedures to reduce and combat them; 
  21. Was elucidated nematocidal effect of various strains of microorganisms on the parasitic nematode species specific to the Solonaceae culture;
  22. Was established the structure of associated parasitic phytonematodes complexes, trophic spectrum, their parasitic impact on autumn cereals and potatoes.

Elaborări implementate:

 

  1. „Selection of stress-resistant cattle with increased productive, adaptive and curative potential” is based on fundamental researches on the possibility of selecting cattle herds resistant to parasitic factors with an increased adaptive, productive and curative potential and their experimentation in production conditions, which gives the possibility to obtain, , high economic indices compared to the previous ones.
  2. „Method of treatment of ectoparasites in chickens”consists in the control of parasites in various species of birds,by using extracts of natural origin with antiparasitic action, which ensures the lack of toxicity of the preparationon on host organism  and the term of use of the products and by-products after deworming with these preparations.
  3. ”Composition for complementary feeding of deer with the use of bruquiettes and deworming process through them "  The elaboration consists in the administration to deer during the frosty winter period (December-February) of the bruquiettes, dosed per animal head, based on attractive components vitally necessary to supplement the difficulty of vitamin-mineral foods at this time of year, and antiparasitic and immunostimulatory effect, containing Levamisole 8% - antiparasitic and immunostimulatory preparation and Diclazuril 1% - antiparasitic preparation with coccidiostatic effect.
  4. ” Antiparasitic measures for prophylactic and treatment concomitant with complementary feeding of pheasants " consists in performing concomitantly of deworming pheasants (ecto- and endoparasites) and compensating for the physiological needs of their organism, during the cold period of the year and spring in the pre-reproductive period, with vitamins, trace elements, minerals assimilated concentrated, which gives a new qualitative effect, and allows to ensure the survival, to increase their reproductive potential in natural conditions, as well as to diminish the risk of their capture by predators.
  5. ” Process of biological control of fasciolosis in ruminants ”consists in the biological control of fasciolosis in ruminants with a low degree of difficulty, lack of toxic and immunosuppressive actions of preparations of chemical origin and with minimum expenses realised by introducing amphibian species (Rana ridibunda, Rana lessonae, Rana temporaria, Bufo viridis),  infested with trematodes Haplometra cylindracea  in the favorable biotopes for development of  trematode Fasciola hepatica. 
  6. "Composition and process for complementary feeding and deworming of the field rabbit" provides administration in the cold winter period (December-February) of mentioned composition dosed per head of animal in the form of briquettes by 75g/rabbit, administered in two halves at intervals of 14 days, in feeders, suspended with string passed through holes at a height of 25-40 cm from the ground. The result of the invention is to develop an effective, harmless, relatively inexpensive and simple process of complex deworming, which simultaneously provides additional feeding and deworming of field rabbits in the cold period of the year.
  7. ”Composition and process for complementary feeding and deworming of carp” according to the invention, provides for the administration (during April – May), dosed briquettes, based on attractive components, vitally necessary (supplementary food, complete vitamin-mineral premix for fish (carp), produced on the basis of vitamins, trace elements, assimilated concentrated minerals. The components of briquettes supplementing the difficulty of vitamin-mineral foods, with complex antiparasitic and immunostimulatory effect, containing Praziquantel, Fenbendazole - antiparasitic preparations and Levomisole - antiparasitic preparations with immunostimulatory effect.
